WAUKEGAN — Locally grown has taken on a whole new meaning in the city.
A 31-year-old local man, Brian Kerns, was arrested and is being held on $40,000 bond after Waukegan police found marijuana, cash and a structure used to grow marijuana.
The Waukegan Police Department’s Gang Intelligence Unit secured a search warrant for a home in the 2400 block of Linden Avenue and when they served the warrant Thursday they found 404 grams of marijuana, just over 14 ounces and a little less than a pound, and $2,468 in cash.
Investigators also seized a four-foot by eight-foot structure with lighting that was used to grow marijuana indoors.
Kerns was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession with intent to deliver.
Police said Kerns has a prior conviction for possession of marijuana. His bond was set Friday at $40,000.
Police said they make an arrest for growing marijuana two to three times a year at most.
