District 112 teachers to rally

HIGHLAND PARK — Teachers in North Shore School District 112 will rally from at 3 to 5:30 p.m., at district headquarters, 1936 Green Bay Road, as a last-ditch negotiation session will be held today, Oct 15.
The North Shore Education Association has threatened a teachers’ strike Tuesday, Oct. 16, if a settlement isn’t reached with the school board.
NSEA President Pamela Kramer late Saturday accused the school board of creating “an animosity to teachers with their preemptive announcement that they will suspend health insurance in the event of a strike.”
“This is an uncommon practice for districts and is indicative of the board’s poor treatment of their staff, causing unnecessary difficulty for teachers and their families, especially those who are soon-to-be-expecting parents,” Kramer said.
Teacher pay, retirement and health benefits, and professional development remain areas of disagreement between the board and the NSEA.
“Our negotiations team has been tirelessly working to find a fair settlement in the midst of misinformation and lack of compromise by the district’s board,” Kramer said.
District 112 serves students in Highwood and Highland Park.
