Trio arrested for Lake Villa vehicle thefts

LAKE VILLA TOWNSHIP — A resident in unincorporated Lake Villa called sheriff’s deputies about a suspicious vehicle which in turn led to the arrest of three suspects who were allegedly stealing from vehicles.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area in the of 25000 block of Newberry for a suspicious vehicle. While looking for the vehicle, deputies saw a black 2002 Nissan leaving the Fox Lake Hills subdivision, which they stopped.
Deputies found GPS units and other miscellaneous property inside the vehicle, which was determined to be stolen from other vehicles.
The driver of the stopped vehicle, Dalton Cmiel, 18, of 42163 N. Fossland St., Zion, was charged with two counts of burglary to a motor vehicle. A passenger, Charles Oberlin, 17, of 27663 W. Bayview, Ingleside, was charged with two counts of burglary to a motor vehicle, two counts of theft and possession of marijuana, deputies said. A third passenger, a juvenile, was referred to juvenile court.
Both Cmiel and Oberlin were being held on $25,000 bond and are due back in Lake County Circuit Court in November.
