The more things change, the more they remain the same.
For years, Vernon Hills High School has fielded one of the state’s best poms/dance teams, and there are state-championship awards in the school trophy case to prove it.
This year, poms/dance is an IHSA sport, as opposed to previous seasons when the Cougars prevailed in Team Dance Illinois-sanctioned competition.
And while the sanctioning body has changed, Vernon Hills continues to excel in the sport.
At the Wheaton North Invitational, the Cougars’ varsity team won the championship for Class 2A (based on school enrollment) schools.
Vernon Hills’ varsity roster includes:
■ Seniors Brianna Perl & Delaney Leber.
■ Juniors Kimberly Amari, Jadyn Amidei, Kristine Chapman, Jordyn Cotton, Dana Dubinski, Erica Erchinger, Jessica Johnson, Tayah Minniefield & Beth Winegardner.
■ Sophomores Carlee Appelbaum, Keely Flis, Kaylee Furlett, Kira Lauman & Devan Madej.
■ Freshmen Josie Amidei & Kimberly Kamman.
Beth Richards coaches the team.
