Attorneys are close to reaching a negotiation in the case of one of the sons of former Chicago Bears Coach Mike Ditka, attorneys said Tuesday.
Mark Ditka, 49, faces felony DUI and possession of a controlled substance charges. The Deerfield man was charged with his second DUI in October. Charges from his 2011 DUI are still pending.
Ditka was before Circuit Judge John Phillips Tuesday for a pretrial hearing.
“We’re close to negotiation in this matter and reaching a disposition,” Ditka’s attorney Robert Ritacca told Phillips.
They set the matter over until Jan. 8.
Phillips noted that there have been no bond violations.
Ditka’s bond was increased in late November after he failed to provide a current prescription for painkillers. He had tested positive for narcotics at a random drug test Nov. 2, according to prosecutor Ben Dillon.
Phillips increased Ditka’s bond from $25,000 to $30,000 on Nov. 20. He also placed Ditka on a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew and told Ditka he is not allowed to use alcohol or drugs.
Ditka posted his increased bond Nov. 20, according to jail records. His trial is scheduled for Jan. 22.
