A North Chicago man was sentenced to 11 years in prison Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to home invasion .

Rishon Travers, 23, admitted to breaking into a home in the 1900 block of Dickey Avenue in North Chicago on July 12.

Travers was one of three men to enter the residence, according to Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Stephen DeRue. Travers, a juvenile offender and William Hargrove, 17, of North Chicago, were charged. Travers and Hargrove were charged with home invasion, armed robbery and residential burglary.

They took a gold necklace, cash, a vehicle, two video game systems and a laptop from the residence, DeRue said. The vehicle was later recovered.

Travers faced up to 30 years in prison for the home invasion charge, Judge John Phillips said.

The three robbers were armed with a BB gun and are accused of physically attacking the man, who was home when they broke in. He suffered non- serious injuries, DeRue said, adding Travers had a previous friendship with the victim.

Travers was on parole for felony robbery when he committed the home invasion, DeRue said, telling the judge the victim of the crime was in agreement with the plea deal.

Charges of armed robbery and residential burglary were dropped against Travers in exchange for his guilty plea. He is in custody at Lake County Jail awaiting transport to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

He has been in custody since Sept. 5, according to his attorney, Gillian Gosch. The time he has spent in custody will count toward his prison sentence, Phillips said.

Co-defendant Hargrove is in custody at Lake County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond, according to jail records. He is due back in court on Friday, Dec. 14.
