A man from Zion was shot and killed while standing on a front porch early Sunday on the Near West Side of Chicago.
Gavin Williams, 28, was fatally shot in the 2400 block of West Flournoy Street, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said.
He was standing on a front porch about 2:45 a.m. when he was shot in the upper right back, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
Williams, of the 2600 block of Gilead Avenue in Zion, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he was pronounced dead at 3:25 a.m., the medical examiner’s office said.
Authorities do not yet know where the gunfire came from, and have no description of the shooter, Alfaro said.
The shooting happened shortly after gunfire wounded another person — a 30-year-old woman — less than a half-mile away in the 2300 block of West Grenshaw Street, authorities said.
Chicago detectives are investigating.
