A 57-year-old Wadsworth woman faces charges for allegedly taking advantage of a 93-year-old man by using his credit cards and getting him to give her $30,000 from his certificate of deposit (CD).
Melissa Reilly of the 14000 block of Kaiser Road, Wadsworth, was charged with aggravated identity theft and financial exploitation of the elderly, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Reilly was arrested Dec. 20 after investigators learned she had befriended the man at church approximately three years ago. First she allegedly convinced him to give her $30,000 from a CD. Then she used eight of the victim’s credit cards to purchase gas, a refrigerator, washer and dryer, a television and a home theater system, authorities said. She would pay off the credit cards using his checking account.
She is being held on $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 10 on the charges.
