Three arrests were made for driving under the influence of alcohol and 95 overall traffic citations were issued over the last two weeks during a Christmas/New Year’s Holiday DUI and seatbelt
enforcement program conducted by the Waukegan Police Department.
According to police, the special enforcement program ran from Dec. 17 through New Year’s Day and featured four seatbelt enforcement zones, four “saturation patrols” and one roadside safety and sobriety checkpoint.
A total of 488 vehicles passed through the checkpoints, and, along with the DUI arrests, among the citations issued were 31 for improper seat belt usage, one for a child safety-seat violation, six for suspended or revoked driver’s licenses and 12 for driving without insurance.
The enforcement program was funded by the Illinois Department or Transportation’s “Drive to Survive” operation through a D.U.I. Enforcement Grant provided to Waukegan police.
