The hallways at Gurnee Grade School are now silent. Saying their goodbyes, students wrote farewell notes on classroom walls and left their handprints.
The now-empty school, located at 940 Kilbourne Road in Gurnee, was built in a flood plain and endured a number of flooding episodes.
The students now attend River Trails School.
