Grayslake schools begin planning for teacher strike

Updated: February 15, 2013 6:23AM

GRAYSLAKE — Community Consolidated School District 46 officials are warning parents to prepare for a possible teachers’ strike.

Negotiations between teachers and the school board is set to resume Tuesday, Jan. 15, after the parties failed to reach an agreement after a six-hour bargaining session Friday night. Teachers have been seeking a new contract with the district since nearly a year ago.

District 46 Superintendent Ellen Correll suggested to parents in an e-mail “that you begin planning for a strike and any needed child care.”

Teachers have set a Wednesday strike date.

“I know this is a very challenging situation for all of you and it is our hope that an agreement can be reached,” Correll said.

She said that in the event of a strike, some child care options will be offered at Meadowview and Prairieview schools.
