Maybe it was the jersey.
The Chicago Blackhawks started their NHL season winning everything in site this month.
And on Saturday, the rib-eating contest — eating the most ribs in a certain amount of time — was won by Kyle Maday of Grayslake who, naturally, was wearing a Blackhawks jersey for the occasion. He received a trophy for his effort, although getting to chow down on tasty ribs actually made all the contestants winners.
The contest was one of the highlights of the fifth annual Winter Ribfest, which was a fun event that benefited the Lake Villa Township Food Pantry. The admission “price” to attend the festival was a nonperishable food item that will be given to the pantry.
In addition to the eating contest, there was a rib-cooking contest for “amateurs,” plus fun and games for all, including hay rides around the park.
