New Year’s Eve means people are busy getting ready to celebrate with family and friends. Imagine our surprise as we were getting ready to close our adoption center when a local resident came running in with a little Chihuahua mix in her arms. Still holding him, all wrapped up in a blanket, she reported that she had found him struggling to walk by some railroad tracks. The first thing that came to her mind was to bring him to Save-A-Pet, and so Caboose became our last rescue of 2012.
The vet diagnosis revealed a grade four luxated patellas on both legs (basically his knee caps are popped out of their groove). As this condition was left untreated for such a long time, the muscles in his legs are stuck in a contracted state. In order to get him on the road of recovery, the vet recommends a lot of physical therapy to get his muscles “un-stuck.” and once that is improved; he can have surgery to repair his knee caps.
With patience, plenty of physical therapy, and lots of tender loving care, we hope that he will be able to get his surgery soon. He is already gaining weight and just loves everyone that spends time with him: staff members, volunteers and dogs. He has become a playful little dog always ready for new adventures and snuggling sessions.
