LONG GROVE — Three people were hospitalized Wednesday after a head-on collision near Long Grove.
Authorities reported that “driver error” caused the crash at 7:29 a.m. on Old McHenry Road north of Hillcrest Drive in unincorporated Lake County.
Marc Small, battalion chief of the Long Grove Fire Protection District, said two vehicles were headed in opposite directions on Old McHenry, but one drifted into the other’s lane.
Firefighters reported that they had to remove both of the front doors on one of the cars to rescue the occupants; the impact had pushed that car 10 feet off the road, into the trees. The second car remained on Old McHenry, but firefighters had to use a spreader to move its driver-side door. Three ambulances took three victims to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Lake Barrington.
None of the three suffered life-threatening injuries, Small said.
