A local man was being held in Lake County Jail after he was arrested Friday night on four felony drug charges.
Round Lake Park detectives executed a search warrant at 318 Forest Glen Drive and arrested Juan B. Lopez-Jasso, 26, of that address. Officers recovered approximately 90 grams of marijuana and 10 grams of cocaine with a street value of several thousand dollars.
Police Chief George Filenko said Lopez-Lasso was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) with intent to deliver, a Class 4 felony; unlawful possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), a Class 4 felony; unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, a Class 3 felony; unlawful possession of cannabis , a Class 4 felony; unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor; unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor; and unlawful possession of ammunition, a misdemeanor.
Additionally, Lopez-Lasso was wanted on an outstanding Lake County warrant for failure to appear on a fleeing and eluding police charge. He is being held at Lake County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
Filenko said Friday’s search warrant was one in a series of arrests that have been targeting street level sales linked to gang activity in the Round Lake area.
“Operation Street Sweep has resulted in numerous search warrants and arrests over the past year,” he said. “The arrest of high-ranking members of the Latin King organization last year by federal authorities has possibly created an environment for street level narcotics sales and violence to escalate amongst rival gangs.
“I have had discussions with State’s Attorney Mike Nerheim who is aware of the county-wide gang problem and is committed to forming a Gang Prosecution Unit to work hand-in-hand with law enforcement to focus on this specific issue,” Filenko said.
