Zion man shot to death in parking lot

Updated: April 13, 2013 6:33AM

One man is dead after an altercation outside a Round Lake Beach convenience store.

Gabriel Gonzales, 19, of Zion was found in the parking lot of the One Stop Food & Liquor in the 1000 block of Fairfield Road Sunday around 12:45 a.m., according to police.

“We and the task force are working on some significant leads right now,” said Deputy Chief Richard Chiarello of the Round Lake Beach Police Department.

Police do not have a motive yet. The morning of the shooting, they received multiple 9-1-1 calls because of the multiple shots being fired.

Gonzales was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead.

“Our condolences to his family. We want to give them an opportunity to learn what happened,” said Chiarello.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office would only say Gonzales died of a gunshot wound, but would not say how many.
