Updated: April 14, 2013 6:28AM

Waukegan police were checking surveillance tapes Tuesday, March 12, in the hopes of getting images of an armed robber who hit the grocery store at Grand Avenue and Butrick Street the day before.

According to police, a black male wearing a green knit cap walked into the Supermercado Mas Por Menos & Antigitos at 1412 Grand Ave. just before 9 a.m. Monday, March 11, with a pistol and immediately walked up to the cashier.

The suspect reached over the counter to the register and took between $500 and $1,000 in cash from the drawer and then exited the store. Police believe he may have entered a vehicle that was parked in the Chuck Wagon restaurant parking lot.

The vehicle is described as possibly being a silver Kia Soul, which drove northbound on New York Street. No one was hurt in the incident.
