Unoccupied home in Gurnee destroyed by fire

Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire which gutted a vacant Gurnee home.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at 2007 Belle Plaine Ave. Tuesday evening, March 19.

The house was not occupied at the time. The homeowner reportedly died last year.

When firefighters arrived, they found fire showing at the rear of the structure. It spread into the roof and one rear room. The cause of the blaze is undetermined and the fire investigation is ongoing. There was no damage estimate.

Gurnee, Waukegan and Newport fire departments were on the scene and Mundelein, Zion, Lake Villa and Libertyville departments assisted coverage at the Gurnee fire stations.
