LAKE ZURICH — A Texas man thought he was getting a great deal on a motorhome from a legitimate seller in Lake Zurich.
But he ended up turning to police when the man, who advertised a motorhome since 2011 on eBay, allegedly duped him out of $16,700.
Randy Looke, 44, of the 500 block of Peach Tree Lane, Lake Zurich, was arrested March 20 for Class 2 theft regarding the eBay scam. His bond was set at $10,000 and he is scheduled to appear in Lake County Circuit Court on April 18.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Looke, who was known online as Andy Lo, had placed advertisements since 2011 to auction off a 1997 Forest River Reflection Motorhome that was 38-foot-long and ran on diesel.
He listed the motorhome under the company name of ins.auto.auctions. Looke is the owner of Sound & Video Consultants at 20866 Route 12, Deer Park, authorities said Thursday.
Finally this year, he received a bid of $16,700 from a man in Texas and he announced the high bid had won. The man sent him a check and then nothing happened.
“He never received anything and Looke continued to give him the runaround,” said Sgt. Sara Balmes of the Sheriff’s Office.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division is seeking information from anyone who may have purchased anything from Looke or Andy Lo through the company ins.auto.auctions. Victims are asked to contact Detective Eric Francke at (847) 377-4152.
