INGLESIDE — An accident on Route 59 near Monaville Road early Thursday morning closed the intersection at the start of rush hour after an alleged drunk driver was thrown from his vehicle and landed on Route 59.
A traffic pole his vehicle struck also ended up on the roadway.
The accident and road closure were between 1:34 and 6:44 a.m., after a red Pontiac traveling northbound on Route 59 left the roadway about 150 feet from the intersection, struck a traffic standard, hit a second traffic standard, then continued through a ditch line and culverts, coming to a rest about 500 feet from where it left the roadway.
The driver, Jesse Reyes, 21, of the 38000 block of North Beechwood Avenue, Spring Grove, was ejected from the car and ended up in the northbound lanes of Route 59.
There were no passengers in Reyes’ car.
He was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center, Libertyville, for non-life threatening injuries, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving with no insurance.
