Flooding prevention efforts in Lake County were bolstered Wednesday by a group of nine inmates from the Lake County Jail, who filled sandbags for more than six hours.

On Wednesday, the Lake County Emergency Management Agency requested volunteers to assist in a sandbag filling operation, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s office.

Community Based Corrections Center Inmates — who are non-violent offenders who typically spend their days seeking employment, working outside the jail, and/or attending treatment programs — were eligible to volunteer. Convicted sex offenders are not eligible to participate.
