DCFS investigating death of North Chicago infant

State child welfare officials are investigating allegations of abuse and neglect against the parents of a 4-month-old North Chicago girl who died Saturday.

Aimee Puentes of the 1700 block of Lincoln Street in North Chicago was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital, where she died at 11 am. Saturday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

An autopsy performed Sunday was inconclusive, with results pending further studies, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The Department of Children and Family Services is investigating allegations of abuse and neglect against the girl’s mother and father, spokeswoman Karen Hawkins said.

The agency has not had prior contact with the family, and other children in the home have been placed with relatives under a DCFS-monitored safety plan, Hawkins said.

North Chicago police did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday afternoon.
