An early morning commuter Tuesday in Zion thwarted an attempted burglary by confronting a man trying to break into his vehicle, according to police.

After the alleged car burglar walked away, the victim called police to report the 5 a.m. incident in the 2400 block of Lydia Avenue.

With a detailed description of the suspect, officers arrived and found Gage Clemons, 18, of Zion, hiding nearby, according to police.

Police said detectives and patrol officers then canvassed the area and found Clemons had entered about 10 unlocked vehicles.

Clemons was charged with attempted burglary and five felony counts of burglary.

I hope this is the same guy that hit up our block a few weeks ago. Cars and garages were all hit on an entire block in Winthrop Harbor just south of Zion.
