Zion-Benton High School grad Marian Nevarez (Class of 2012) earned scholar-athlete honors for her freshman year at Aurora University.

The NCAA Division 3 Northern Athletic Conference honors student-athletes who mained at least a 3.25 grade-point average during the year while playing varsity sports.

Nevarez was a sprinter (100 and 200) on the Aurora women’s track team. She competed in both events at the season-ending conference meet, although she didn’t qualify for either final.

Nevarez is majoring in psychology and criminal justice.

Two area grads will be playing tennis at Augustana this fall.

Libertyville High grad Melissa Seiler will be a freshman at Augie this fall, and Mundelein grad Ali MacDonald will be a sophomore.

Last fall, MacDonald played Nos. 3 or 4 singles for the Vikings and compiled a 19-10 record. She also played No. 1 doubles and was 19-10 at that level.

In college tennis, play singles and doubles in the same dual meet. MacDonald’s doubles partner from last year also will be back in 2013.
