A Lake County Grand Jury has indicted a 19-year-old Gurnee man for the alleged sexual assault of two children under the age of 13.
Nyasha C. Mbawa, of the 36000 block of Grand Oaks Court, was indicted on charges of predatory criminal sexual assault Wednesday. He was arrested by Lake County Sheriff’s deputies July 16 and remains in custody of the Lake County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond.
On July 11, one of children’s mothers reported that her daughter was the victim of an assault, according to authorities. The girl, who was under 13 years old at the time, told her mother that Mbawa had inappropriate sexual contact with her.
According to the sheriff’s office, Mbawa admitted that he had sexual contact with the girl and a second victim.
He was originally charged with three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault for the first offense. He was later charged with four additional counts for contact with the second victim, also under 13, according to police.
Mbawa is scheduled for arraignment Aug. 27.
