A Gurnee man pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Tuesday, Aug. 27, to charges of sexually assaulting two young girls.
Nyasha Mbawa, of the 36000 block of Grand Oaks Court, was indicted earlier this month on charges of predatory criminal sexual assault involving two girls under the age of 13.
On July 11, one of children’s mothers reported that her daughter was the victim of an assault, according to authorities. The girl told her mother that Mbawa had inappropriate sexual contact with her.
He was arrested by Lake County Sheriff’s deputies July 16 and remains in custody of the Lake County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond.
According to the sheriff’s office, Mbawa admitted that he had sexual contact with the girl and a second victim.
While originally charged with three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault for the first offense, he was later charged with four additional counts for contact with the second victim.
