This coming Saturday morning’s Zumba dance/exercise class is about fun and fitness. But in the end, it’s actually about Waukegan kids.
The local high school’s dance team qualified to represent Waukegan High School and the community next February on the national stage, but that competition is in Florida, which is not exactly within walking distance of Lake County.
The fundraising efforts to make the trip to nationals have been many, progress and been slow but steady, and the bottom line on the trip’s bill currently stands at $6,000.
The next fundraiser is the Zumba class, which costs $7 to attend for the hour. Assuming the weather is good, it will be held on the track at Waukegan’s football field. If it rains, the class will be in the gym at the high school on Brookside.
Either way, the Waukegan High dance team needs 857.1 people to participate in Saturday’s Zumba class to reach its fundraising goal.
The dance team’s coach is Jill Franz and if you’re one of the 857.1 people who want to participate on Saturday morning and need more information, you can email her at jfranz@wps60. There will be a professional instructor teaching the class.
