A Lake County Sheriff’s investigation into an Aug. 30 incident in which some parents claimed students were allegedly left off of the Beach Park Middle School late bus in an unfamiliar neighborhood has concluded without citations or charges against the bus driver.
Officers of the sheriff’s office said Tuesday that their review of the case showed that 16 students voluntarily got off at one stop in Beach Park following an incident in which a water bottle was thrown from the bus and landed in a car.
The remaining 17 students stayed on the bus and were dropped off at their regular stops, according to reports.
The investigation included interviews with the driver and others, as well as GPS information from the bus.
No students were forced off, officials said, and drivers are not allowed to stop students from getting off the bus at a stop if they wish to do so.
Two parents had filed a police report with the sheriff’s office stating that their children and grandchildren were among a group of students that had to get off of the bus at an unfamiliar location. Sheriff’s officials said those claims appear to be unfounded.
