The younger members of Jr. Encore Theatre have all the roles in “Charlotte’s Web the Musical,” at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, and 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at St. Lawrence Episcopal Church, 125 W. Church St., Libertyville.
“We wanted to give the first- through fifth-graders an opportunity to have their own show,” explained artistic director Bob Silton.
Silton noted that when he chose “Charlotte’s Web,” “nobody around here was doing it. Now everybody’s doing it.” But this version of E. B. White’s classic tale about the spider who finds a way to save her friend, Wilbur the pig, is unique because it’s a musical. The music and lyrics are by Charles Strouse, who also wrote “Bye Bye Birdie” and “Annie.”
Silton praised the show’s message that, “No matter how little you are or how insignificant you feel, you can always shine through, find a friend and be the best at something.”
Tickets are $12 in advance, $14 at the door. For details, call (847) 708-8880 or go to www.jrencoretheatre.com.
