Two fires at a Winthrop Harbor home on Sunday are being investigated by the Winthrop Harbor Police and several fire agencies.
The Winthrop Harbor Fire Department responded to a home at 231 Oakdale Lane at 9:15 a.m. Oct. 13 for smoke in the basement that was possibly the result of a dryer fire. It was quickly extinguished. There was some fire damage on the lower level of the home and there was smoke damage in the upper floors.
The family was relocated to a hotel pending clean-up.
Then just after 5 p.m., neighbors called the fire department to report heavy smoke coming from the residence. Firefighters found a well involved fire on the main floor of the home, which was under control in less than a half hour.
An “extensive investigation by several fire agencies and the Winthrop Harbor Police Department is ongoing,” said a press release from the department. There was no determination for a cause on the second fire. Investigators do not believe it was an extension of the earlier fire in the basement.
The Winthrop Harbor Fire Department received assistance at both calls from units of the Beach Park, Newport, Pleasant Prairie, and Zion Fire departments. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters during either fire.
