Eight area high schools qualified for this year’s football playoffs, and first-round matchups have been set.
The playoffs include all teams with 9-0, 8-1, 7-2 and 6-3 records, but several who finished 5-4.
The eight area schools that qualified are Lake Zurich (8-1), Stevenson (7-2), Lake Forest (7-2), Lakes (8-1), Grayslake North (7-2), Warren (6-3), Antioch (5-4) and Highland Park (7-2).
Days (Friday or Saturday) and kickoff times for the Round of 32 (first round) games will be announced on Monday.
For playoff purposes in the classes involving area schools, the state is split in half (north/south) with two 16-team brackets set up based on won-loss records, and the two bracket champions playing for the state title at Northern Illinois University if DeKalb on Thanksgiving weekend.
The playoff games involving area teams are as follows:
■ Class 5A — Antioch (5-4) at Sycamore (9-0).
■ Class 6A — Prairie Ridge (5-4) at Lakes (8-1).
■ Class 6A — Rolling Meadows (6-3) at Grayslake North (7-2).
■ Class 5A — Hubbard of Chicago (6-3) at Lake Forest (7-2).
■ Class 7A — Elk Grove (6-3) at Lake Zurich (8-1).
■ Class 8A — Warren (6-3) at Glenbrook South (7-2).
■ Class 8A — St. Charles East (6-3) at Steveson (7-2).
