Visibility was down to a quarter-mile on some sections of northern Illinois roadways Wednesday, Dec. 4, as fog settled into Lake County.
Near Gurnee Mills and Six Flags Great America, the fog made the mall and amusement park barely visible from Interstate 294.
The National Weather Service’s dense-fog advisory went out at 3:48 p.m. for not only Lake but also Cook, DuPage, Kane and McHenry in the Chicago area. The advisory extended to Lee, Ogle and Winnebago in the western part of the state.
Visibility was forecast to be a quarter-mile to near zero in some areas of the zone, especially near Lake Michigan. The fog was expected to improve by early evening with the approach of a cold front.
