An arrest was made of a Gurnee youth baseball treasurer for allegedly writing organization checks to himself.
Donald Schaefer, 52, was arrested at his Grayslake residence at 6:30 a.m. Monday on a warrant issued Oct. 30.
Schaefer is charged with Class 2 felony theft for allegedly taking $80,000 from the organization over a five-year period, said Gurnee Police Cmdr. Willie Meyer.
Meyer said he did not know immediately what Schaefer used the money for after writing checks from the league account to himself. He is no longer treasurer of the league.
Schaefer served as president of the Northeastern Illinois Association of Snowmobile Clubs from at least 1997 through 2000.
His bond was set at $50,000 and he is scheduled to appear in Lake County Circuit Court on Jan 13 in Room C120.
