Updated: January 14, 2014 12:00PM

A young man walking along the Metra tracks near downtown Grayslake Tuesday evening made contact with a Metra train and survived.

Metra’s police are investigating the incident and did not have an immediate comment, but Grayslake police and fire confirmed the incident occurred around 7:21 p.m. near Allen Avenue and Central Park.

“The young man was in his teens and he was walking alongside the tracks when he made contact with the train,” said Greg Formica, deputy fire chief for the Grayslake Fire Department.

He was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in serious, but stable condition, he said.

“He was conscious, but unable to answer questions.”

A Metra spokesman said their police department is handling the case, but no information was immediately available.
