A Chicago man charged with the murder of his 2-month-old son, who lived in Waukegan, has pleaded not guilty in Lake County Circuit Court.
Andre Sharkey, 32, is charged with several counts of first-degree murder, including murder with intent to kill and murder with the knowledge that his actions had a strong probability of causing death.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges Thursday.
A pretrial date of Jan. 6 has been scheduled for Sharkey, with a preliminary trial date set for Feb. 7.
The infant, Samuel Sharkey, was brought by his mother to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan Nov. 16 with what police called “suspicious injuries” and died at the hospital.
The baby, who lived with his mother in the 2400 block of Dugdale Road, died of trauma to the abdomen, police said.
The mother is not being charged, according to police.
Samuel’s three siblings were taken from the home and are now in foster care, according to a spokeswoman for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
Sharkey remains in Lake County Jail in lieu of a $3 million bond.
