The parents of a 7-month-old girl found dead in a Barrington home last week are being investigated by child welfare officials over allegations of neglect.
Rescue crews responded to a call of a deceased individual at 12:07 p.m. Jan. 8 in the 100 block of South Hager Avenue in Barrington, a statement from Barrington police said.
The 7-month-old girl, Mya G. Edwards, was pronounced dead at the home at 12:19 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Both parents are under investigation for allegations of neglect, said Veronica Resa, spokeswoman for the Department of Children and Family Services.
DCFS has not had prior contact with the parents, but did receive an “unfounded” neglect report from April 2013 and an indicated abuse report from 2002 for other children in the home, Resa said.
Mya had a twin sister, who Resa said is being cared for under the DCFS Monitored Safety Plan. She could not share further details about the twin or her whereabouts.
An autopsy Jan. 9 was inconclusive pending toxicology and medical test results, according to police. Those results should take 6 to 8 weeks.
Barrington police and the Cook County Major Case Assistance Team are investigating, but no further information is being provided.
