Police: Burglaries spiking in Lake Villa, Ingleside

Updated: February 14, 2014 6:15AM

Lake County Sheriff’s officials said recently they have seen a rise in residential burglaries in Ingleside and unincorporated Lake Villa since early last November.

Four burglaries have happened in this western portion of Lake County between Nov. 5 and Jan. 3.

Police added that burglars have attempted to enter other homes but have been scared off by an owner or neighbor.

Sheriff’s officials say it is common to see a rise in burglaries during this time of year, since it becomes dark outside early and criminals use that to their advantage.

They offer these suggestions to prevent this type of crime:

■ Always lock your residence.

■ Keep outside lights on and use motion-sensor lights.

■ Make your home appear to be occupied. If you are away use automatic timers on lights.

■ Don’t allow mail or garbage to pile up.

■ Be aware of your surroundings. If you see something unusual, call the police.
