Teen faces felonies after accidental shooting at party

A teenager showing off a gun to friends accidently shot one of those friend in the stomach. She is in stable condition, and he is now facing a quarter of a million dollar bond.
Charles Walkanoff, 19, of the 38000 block of Pine Avenue was arrested after the Lake County Sheriff’s Office was called to the home Tuesday just before midnight.
Walkanoff told sheriff investigators he was showing friends a Billerica 9mm handgun when he shot the female victim from Waukegan in the stomach. She was transported to Vista Medical Center East and is currently in stable condition.
Walkanoff was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, no FOID Card, and reckless conduct. Bond was set at $250,000 and he is scheduled to appear in Lake County Circuit Court Jan. 24.
Alcohol was a factor in the incident.
Justin Jones, 19, of the 38000 block of Wilson Avenue, Beach Park and Alex Apencer, 19, of the 37000 block of Loyola Ave., Beach Park were both charged with underage consumption of alcohol by a minor along with another male who was not named because he is a juvenile. Bond was set at $1,000.
