The long-time treasurer of a Gurnee homeowner’s association has been charged with stealing more than $10,000 from the organization.

Brian Moy, 59, of Gurnee was charged with felony theft over $10,000 but under $100,000, according to Gurnee police.

The theft was uncovered by a member of the Providence Village Homeowner’s Association, who discovered a substantial amount of money missing from their accounts, a statement from police said.

The board reported the missing money to police, who investigated for five months before charging Moy, the association’s long-time treasurer.

Moy turned himself in to detectives Jan. 31 and was released after posting 10 percent of a $50,000 bond, police said. He faces between three and seven years in prison and a fine up to $25,000.

Moy is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 21 in Waukegan.
