Zion nuke plant decommissioning panel formed

The Zion Station Community Advisory Panel has been formed to enhance communication, public involvement and education on decommissioning activities at the former ComEd nuclear plant.
According to ZionSolutions, LLC, a subsidiary of EnergySolutions Inc., ZCAP will serve as a conduit for public information and as a formal channel of community involvement and communication with ZionSolutions.
ZionSolutions was formed specifically to undertake the decommissioning of the lakeshore nuclear plant. The 10-year project is expected to be completed in 2020.
The majority of the volunteer panel members were appointed by their participating groups, which were selected for their wide-reaching representation of different sectors of the local community.
Members include, Lake County Board member Brent Paxton of Zion, chairman; state Rep. JoAnn Osmond, R-Antioch, deputy chair; Winthrop Harbor Police Chief Joel Brumlik; Craig Dyke, nuclear medicine technologist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Midwestern Regional Medical Center, Zion; Cynthia Johnson, director, Division of Health, Department of Human Services, Kenosha County, Wis.
Also, Zion Fire Chief John Lewis; Audrey Liddle, business manager of Zion-Benton High School; Craig Mason, a former ComEd employee; Kent McKenzie, emergency management coordinator, Lake County Emergency Management Agency; environmentalist Doug Ower of Zion; Beach Park Trustee Linda Sittig; and Patrick Thurman, vice president of regulatory affairs, licensing and document control for ZionSolutions.
