WINTHROP HARBOR — Police have named the second suspect in the New Year’s Eve party shooting in Winthrop Harbor, the first call of the new year.
Police arrested Jeremiah Lee, 20, of 1707 Hermon Ave. (not Hebron as reported Wednesday), Zion, and charged him with aggravated battery, unlawful use of a deadly weapon, aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, police said.
A woman also fled with Lee in a vehicle which was later recovered in Wadsworth. She was identified as Keri May, 18, of Zion who was charged with obstruction of justice for her role, police said. Her bond was set at $20,000 and Lee’s bond was set at $200,000.
The victim in the shooting was Tasker Upchurch, 21, of 1305 Lewis Ave., who survived the shot in the neck, but according to a family member could have died if the slug had gone just little bit one way or could have been paralyzed if it had gone a little bit the other way.
There had been a party and an argument, and Lee allegedly went back up to the door, knocked and then shot Upchurch when he opened the door. Lee was placed under arrest at his home and police also searched for the gun, but have not been able to find it.
