WINTHROP HARBOR — Police are looking for information about an armed robber who pointed a gun at a clerk at Harbor Foods on Tuesday night.
The suspect walked into the grocery store at 1235 Sheridan Road just after 6 p.m. and shopped for a short time, grabbing a few items for purchase, including a sausage, then went to the checkout line.
In line, the clerk bagged his goods and then he pulled his tan work jacket back to reveal a black handgun. He ordered her to place money in the grocery bag.
He then went to the next clerk and took the gun from his waistband and pointed it at her demanding cash.
He fled the store, but it is unknown if he fled on foot or to a waiting vehicle.
The suspect is described as a white male in his late 40s or early 50s standing 6-feet 2-inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds, police said Wednesday.
He may also have some facial hair like a goatee. He was wearing a black baseball cap, jeans, tan Carhartt-type work jacket and gym shoes.
The manager had both female clerks run to the back of the store for safety in case he came back into the store.
Any information on the robbery should be directed to Winthrop Harbor police at (847) 872-2131 or Lake County Crime Stoppers at (847) 662-2222.
