GRAYSLAKE — Village officials gave a warm welcome to Alexander Lumber Co., on Tuesday night by approving a tentative special-use permit for the company.
The company, founded in 1891 and headquartered in Aurora, plans a retail outlet at 939 S. Route 83, site of the former Marriott Drywall firm.
Alexander has 23 retail outlets in Illinois, and another five in Wisconsin. The company plans to close two of the five outlets in Wisconsin and move them to Grayslake.
The company sells wholesale and retail lumber, various building materials, roofing supplies, kitchen cabinets and other wood products used in the home.
The Wisconsin relocation will provide about 20 local jobs, with company estimates that the number could double during the next few years. Village officials estimate they will receive about $110,000 in sales taxes during the company’s first year of operation.
