Meijer distribution center gets preliminary OK

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. — The Pleasant Prairie Plan Commission has approved preliminary site and operational plans for Meijer Distribution, Inc., property on Green Bay Road currently used as a wholesale grocery distribution center by SuperValu.
Meijer is proposing a 253,677-square-foot expansion on site for a 24-hour-a day, seven-day-a week facility.
The Supervalu distribution will close in May, with Meijer anticipating their operations at the center will begin during fall 2014.
Once operational, the facility is expected to employ up to 486 full-time positions, including third-party labor, and 42 part-time positions, including third-party labor.
Truck traffic is projected to make between 90 to 110 trips per day with the potential for future trips to reach 218 per day at peak times, village officials said.
Village planners also have approved plans for a 471,403-square-foot-industrial building on approximately 26 acres of vacant land north of 109th Street between 80th and 88th avenues in LakeView Corporate Park. The tenant for the building is Taiwan-based Ta Chen International, Inc., is a leading distributor of stainless steel, aluminum and nickel alloy products.
The company currently has eight warehouses in the U.S., with the company’s new Pleasant Prairie location serving the Chicago and Milwaukee markets.
