Nomination: The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has nominated Sgt. Thomas Struck for a 2012 Hero Award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). He was a winner in 2011. Sgt. Struck made 41 driving under the influence arrests in 2012 and he participates in roadside safety checks. He is also known for keeping the lines of communication open with victims of DUI accidents so they know when court dates and procedings are coming up. He began his career with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office in 2001 and was promoted to Sergeant in September 2012. Approximately 100 nominations are submitted for the MADD Illinois Hero Award with 25 law enforcement officers being chosen, according to the sheriff’s office.
