NAACP award: Highland Park resident Jed Stoneof Stone & Associates, Ltd., a criminal defense law firm in Waukegan, received the NAACP Freedom and Justice Award at the Lake Couny NAACP’s annual Freedom Fund banquet Dec. 12. Stone, 61, was given the award as a person who “exemplifies one who stands up for equality, freedom and the American spirit of justice.”
Comittee posts: The chairman and vice chairman of the College of Lake County board of trustees — Barbara Oilschlager of Grayslake and William Griffin of Lake Forest — have been named associate members on two committees of the Association of Community College Trustees for 2011. Oilschlager was named to the public policy committee and Griffin to the finance and audit committee. They will attend their first committee meetings on Feb. 12 in conjunction with the Community College National Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C. Their terms will expire at the end of the 2011 ACCT Community College Leadership Congress in Dallas, Texas, Oct. 12-15, 2011.
Book award: Suzanne Slade of Libertyville, author of more than 80 books for children, received a Teachers’ Choice Children’s Book Award for her recent picture book, “What’s New at the Zoo?” The Teachers’ Choice Award is determined by a nationwide panel of teacher-judges who name the standouts in children’s books each year. Winning titles are chosen based on qualities important to teachers such as instructional value, ease of use, innovation, and relevance to curriculum. “What’s New at the Zoo?”, illustrated by Joan Waites, helps children practice addition skills as they take a journey through the zoo.
New post: Wisconsin-based Aurora Health Care has named Ray Grady, former president and chief executive officer of Evanston Hospital, as its senior vice president and chief administrative officer. In this position, Grady will oversee affiliations, managed care contracting, market development, logistics, clinical research and Aurora Ventures, the for-profit arm of Aurora that manages its pharmacies, Aurora QuickCare and Aurora Vision Centers. Grady served for 30 years in positions of increasing responsibility at NorthShore NorthShore University HealthSystem, formerly Evanston Northwestern Healthcare and its affiliates and hospitals. He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and he has chaired the Illinois Hospital Association, the Institute for Diversity, and the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education.
