Battery Giant store opens in Gurnee

Updated: January 10, 2012 8:03AM

GURNEE — Battery Giant has opened its second store in the Chicago market at 5338 Grand Ave., across from Six Flags Great America.

Headquartered in Sterling Heights, Mich., the company currently operates 11 franchised retail locations in Michigan, Illinois, Arizona, Ohio and Florida. Darrald Spencer is owner of the Gurnee store.

“Darrald and his store location have a tremendous opportunity in northern Chicagoland to be the community battery supplier and grow the level of service and product offerings in the area,’ said Battery Giant President Greg Danziger.

The store will stock a special category of radio control batteries for powering race cars.

“Being involved with remotely operated auto racing or “radio control” for several years allowed me to watch electric powered vehicles go through many changes as the chemistry of their power supply changed,” Spencer said. “Battery chemistry is a very dynamic field and will continue to evolve for many years.”

Battery Giant carries a wide range of replacement batteries and battery products, plus helping consumers to recycle their rechargeable batteries and old cellphones by offering free recycling.
