The Goodrich ISR Systems facility in Barrington will close its doors on March 31, resulting in the loss of 58 jobs.
Notification of the layoffs at the Charlotte, N.C.-based Goodrich Corporation, a Fortune 500 company and global supplier of systems and services to the Aerospace and Defense industry, was made in 2010 for employees at the facility located at 550 W. Northwest Highway.
“As announced on December 8, 2010, the Barrington, Illinois facility will be integrated into the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Systems facilities in Westford, Mass. and Danbury, Conn.,” said Julie Mears, marketing communications manager for Goodrich ISR Systems. “Contracts and programs currently executed or supported at this facility will be transferred by March 31, 2012.”
Mears added that 10 employees from the Barrington facility have been relocated to other Goodrich and ISR Systems facilities and that the company is working with each person “individually to help make the right decision for their individual circumstance.”
Peg Blanchard, director of economic and community development for Barrington, said Goodrich has been downsizing for a couple years and the facility’s closing will be a “tremendous loss” to the community because it has been part of the community for so long.
“The integration into the Westford and Danbury facilities has the least impact to ISR Systems staff,” Mears said. “The Westford and Danbury facilities have the capacity to house the needed staff and product lines and allow for continued growth in support of our customers.”
