LAKE FOREST — “Sirens,” a romantic comedy by Deborah Zoe Laufer, will be performed Feb. 3 to March 4 at Citadel Theatre, the West Campus Theatre, 300 S. Waukegan Road.
This irresistible comedy tells the story of a husband and wife and the hit love song he wrote for her. They live off its proceeds for the next 25 years. But when Sam’s creative stagnation and memories of passionate youth drive him to Facebook to seek a new muse, Rose decides it’s time for the togetherness of an anniversary cruise in the Greek Islands. Will the sublime music that Sam hears coming from Siren’s Island cause him to jump overboard on his marriage, or will it rekindle the flame? The big hit at the 2010 Humana Festival of New American Plays, “Sirens” offers a fresh take on romantic comedy.
The production is produced by Jo Ann Avellone, directed by Will Casey and stars Scott Phelps, Ellen Phelps, Callie Johnson and Matt Pratt.
“Laufer’s funny and heartfelt ‘Sirens’ ... proves that character and story are alive and well in American theater. ‘Sirens’ is a witty play with a heart as big as its mouth.” — Lousville Courier-Journal.
Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m. Other matinees will be Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. and Feb. 18 and 25 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $37.50 for Friday and Saturday and $32.50 for all other performances. Students and seniors receive a discount of $5.
