VERNON HILLS — Pack your lunch and your blanket and enjoy an indoor winter picnic and free concert with the ScribbleMonster gang Feb. 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Aspen Drive Library meeting room, 701 N. Aspen Drive. Be ready to sing, think, play, dance and get creative with ScribbleJim and ScribbleJayne in an interactive live show the whole family will enjoy.
James Dague (ScribbleJim) is the creator of ScribbleMonster, a children’s book and music series which introduces kids to the joy of creating and whose approach to music and other activities centers on what children can do, rather than focusing on what they can’t. Dague’s bandmate, Jayne Saniat (ScribbleJayne) is a certified educator and brings another voice, personality and additional opportunities for interaction to their live performances. Benefiting from their collective experience, ScribbleMonster’s live shows are a blending of traditional children’s music, improvisational comedy and power-pop that create a fun, interactive rock show for the whole family. When asked how to describe their music, Dague said, “We’re like ‘Sesame Street on steroids.’”
Acclaimed by the likes of the National Public Radio and Parenting Magazine, ScribbleMonster’s music can be heard nationally on XM, Sirius, and independent children’s radio. Their latest release was named one of the Top 5 Kids & Family Albums of the Year by NPR and their “draw outside the lines” approach to music for the family has earned them rave reviews from parents as well as Parenting Magazine. In addition to live performances with the band, which have included appearances at The Chicago Cultural Center, Lollapalooza and as the Chicago White Sox Kids Day band, Dague teaches preschool music classes and performs throughout the year as “ScribbleJim” at schools, libraries, festivals and other family events.
